nagamas_exchangeNagamas is a fanfiction and fanart exchange for all games in the Fire Emblem franchise.
This exchange requires participants to be 18 or older in order to sign up.
An Archive of Our Own (AO3) account is required to participate. (Please contact the mods if you need an invite.)

HOW-TO
For those who are new to AO3-based fan exchanges, here's a high-level overview of how this works:
(1) During the nominations period, you will nominate the characters and/or relationships you want to request during the exchange.
(2) During the signup period, you will request what gifts you'd like, using the tags that were nominated during the nominations period, and optionally you'll write prompts to further specify what kind of gift you'd like to see from your gifter. You will also offer what game/characters/ships you're willing to make a gift for.
(3) Once sign-ups close, after the matching algorithm has run, you will receive an email with your assignment.
(4) Once the deadline has passed and everyone has a gift (the deadline will be extended if not everyone has a gift yet), all gifts will be simultaneously revealed, and you'll receive an email with a link to your gift.
More details for all these steps are below.
NOMINATIONS
You may nominate up to 5 fandoms with 10 characters and/or relationships each.
To nominate a character, use the format "Solo: [Character name] ([Fire Emblem game])", e.g. "Solo: Claude von Riegan (Fire Emblem: Three Houses)".
To nominate a ship (either "/", for romantic pairings, or "&" for friendship), use the format "[Character Name] [/,&] [Character Name] ([Fire Emblem game])", e.g. "Claude/Lorenz (Fire Emblem: Three Houses". (You can include more than two people in a relationship if you like, following the same format.)
Crossovers are allowed between all entries in the Fire Emblem franchise. To nominate a crossover, please nominate them under the Crossover fandom, and disambiguate every character, e.g. "Chrom (Fire Emblem: Awakening) / Edelgard (Fire Emblem: Three Houses)"
SIGNUPS
Requesting a gift
You will sign up requesting 1-5 fandoms, each with at least one medium (art and/or fic) and at least three character and/or relationship tags per fandom.
For instance, if you're interested in either a piece of fanfiction about Byleth with one of the three lord from Three Houses, or a piece of fanart of one of the characters from Awakening, your signup might look something like:
The nagamas_mod account has created an example sign-up that you can view on the Requests Summary page if you want an example to go by. (The nagamas_mod signup will be deleted before matching occurs.)
Do Not Wants ("DNWs")
If there is any content you do NOT want in your gift, please *clearly label it* in the "Additional details" field. e.g., "DNW: any mention of pregnancy."
Please be specific with your DNWs. We can't enforce something vague like "no gross stuff" but we can enforce "no graphic depictions of violence," for example.
"Do not match me with [x]" requests
If there is a specific creator you don't want to be matched with, please contact the mods with the following information:
* The username of the person you don't want to be matched with.
* Specify which of the following applies:
(1) you do not want to create a gift for them,
(2) you do not want them to create a gift for you, or
(3) you neither want to create a gift for them nor want to receive a gift from them.
* If you've chosen (2) or (3), please specify which of the following you wish to happen if your initial creator defaults:
(a) your request will be posted to the public pinch hit list, and if (and only if) the unwanted creator offers to fulfill your pinch hit, the mods will privately inform them that you've requested not to have them fulfill your gift, or
(b) your request will not be posted to the public pinch hit list, and there is a chance you won't receive a gift. (We will make an effort to privately match your pinch hit, but we cannot guarantee a gift if we can't post the pinch hit publicly.)
You do not need to provide any explanation for why you don't wish to be matched with that creator.
Prompts
In the "additional details" field, you may include some prompts for the person making your gift.
Prompts are optional, and can be as general and specific as you like.
In general, the purpose of the prompt is to try to make it easier for your gifter to make something you'd like! So it's a good idea to write a prompt with that in mind. Mentioning aspects of a character you'd like to see more of, poses that you think would be particularly fun/interesting to see, and so on, are all good ideas.
Remember that this is a gift exchange, not a commissioned work, so prompts that are too specific may not be helpful. A beat-by-beat outline of exactly the fic you want to see may not leave a writer much room for creativity, for example.
You are free to request NSFW material in your prompt, but keep in mind the person you're matched with may not feel comfortable writing that material, so additionally including some prompts that don't involve such material may be a good idea.
Your gifter is not required to follow your prompt (though most will make a good-faith effort to do so). So long as they produce a fanwork featuring at least one character and/or relationship tag you requested, which does not include any of your DNWs, it is a valid gift.
OCs/Tactician/My Unit/etc
You may request OCs using the appropriate tag ("My Unit", "Summoner", etc). If you can include a description and/or reference pictures of your OC in the prompt field, so that the writer or artist has something to work off of, that would be helpful.
Offering a gift
During your signup, you will also offer at least 1 fandom with at least two tags in that fandom, though if you can offer more than that, please do so. (It makes it easier for the algorithm to match you!) For instance, if you're an artist who's happy to draw Edelgard from Fire Emblem: Three Houses, and happy to draw a few different Chrom ships for Fire Emblem: Awakening, your offers might look like:
ASSIGNMENTS
Once sign-ups close, the matching algorithm will run, and if all goes well, you'll get an email with your assignment shortly.
(This will possibly be within a few hours of signups closing, or possibly ~48hrs afterwards. Once assignments are out we will announce it here.)
If none of your offers match any requests by the time sign ups close, the mods will contact you, and you'll have 24 hours to add relevant offers.
If you don't reply back in 24 hours, or if you don't want to add offers, your signup will be deleted.
If none of your requests match any offers by the time sign ups close, your request will go out as a pinch hit. That means it will be posted to this page, and anyone can volunteer to fulfill your request. (Pinch hits can be claimed either by replying to the Dreamwidth post or emailing the mods.)
FULFILLING
Fulfilling
Once you've finished your assignment, you can fulfill it by going to the AO3 assignment page and clicking the "fulfill" button.
Minimum requirements
Minimum work requirements are one complete fanfic of at least 500 words, or one finished piece of original art, digital or traditional, on clean, unlined paper.
AI-generated images and texts do not constitute a valid gift for this exchange.
Defaulting
If you can't finish your assignment for any reason, please default by going to your AO3 assignments page and clicking the "default" button on your assignment.
You do not have to justify or explain your defaulting to the mod.
You may still get a gift, but if your assigned creator also defaults, you won't go out to pinch hits.
If you haven't posted a work by the deadline, you'll be defaulted by the mods, and you will not be able to participate in Nagamas the following year. (Defaults before the deadline are not penalized.)
Extensions
Please reach out to the mods if you need an extension on your assignment. We don't need to know why you need one in your request.
No extensions will be granted for assignments after the deadline has passed (pinch hitters will still be able to request them).
REVEALS
Gifts will not be revealed until everyone who signed up has a gift.
Once the deadline has passed and everyone has a gift (the deadline will be extended if not everyone has a gift yet), the collection will open. (You'll get an email letting you know when this happens.) At this time, feel free to cross-post your gift to any other platforms you choose. If you tag the Nagamas account(s) for the social media site(s) where you post your gift, we will reblog/retweet/etc it to that account.

Date: 2024-12-06 09:42 pm (UTC)Since there wasn’t any guidance on treats one way or the other at sign-up time, by default, we won’t allow treats. (We wouldn’t make someone uncomfortable if they would prefer not to receive treats and didn’t have an opportunity to indicate that fact on their signup.)
If you have some other means of contacting someone & asking if they’d be open to treats, though, you’re welcome to do so, and we’ll give clearer guidance on this in next year’s round.
